As primary teachers, we know the importance of engaging read alouds to spark imagination and foster a love for reading in our young learners. With that in mind, I've compiled a list of our most popular winter-themed read alouds that are sure to delight your students.
WINTER READ ALOUD #1
"The Snowy Day" by Ezra Jack Keats
This one is a timeless classic. A young boy goes on his own adventures on a snowy day, perfect for sparking imaginations and celebrating the wonders of winter. This is a great one to stop and talk between pages, asking students about their impressions or similar experiences.
WINTER READ ALOUD #2
"The Mitten" by Jan Brett
This story was all the rage when I was training to be a teacher. The main character loses his mitten in the snowy woods, only for it to become a cozy home for various woodland animals. So many writing and art projects are inspired by this fun story!
WINTER READ ALOUD #3
"Owl Moon" by Jane Yolen
My students were quite mesmerized by the idea of getting to leave their house for a walk through to forest at night. Experience the quiet magic of a winter's night as a young girl goes owling with her father. Magical!
Whether you're cuddled up in the classroom or exploring the snowy outdoors, these read alouds are perfect for celebrating the magic of winter with your primary students!
