Today I'm sharing more of my best loved stories that are sure to captivate your students at back to school time. In my experience, they spark meaningful conversations and help to create a peaceful classroom environment. Whether you're trying to make students feel comfortable in their new classroom, or just trying to get to know each other, these stories are the perfect way to kick off a fantastic school year!
BACK TO SCHOOL STORY #1
"The Night Before First Grade" by Natasha Wing: As teachers, we always get a bit nervous the night before the first day of school! In this story, a group of eager students prepares for their first day of first grade. This fun and relatable story is perfect for getting kids excited about the adventures that await them in the new school year.

BACK TO SCHOOL STORY #2
"Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes: Do you have new students who have unusual names? This can be tough when meeting new classmates, especially when names are read aloud for attendance the first few days. In this story, Chrysanthemum loves her unique name until she starts school and faces teasing from her classmates. This heartwarming story teaches valuable lessons about self-esteem, kindness, and the power of words.

BACK TO SCHOOL STORY #3
"Llama Llama Misses Mama" by Anna Dewdney: For younger students, this one is a winner, as are the other books in this series. When Llama Llama heads off to school for the first time, he can't help but miss his mama. This sweet and reassuring story is perfect for helping young students adjust to the idea of being away from home during the school day.

Have you read any of these books with your students? They are not only fun for students, but fun for teachers to share as well!
